The project is a continuitation of the joint project "A Boundary Element Method for nonlinear Heat Conduction and Thermoelasticity" which was supported by the German Research Association from September 1, 1996, to August 31, 2000. The project concentrates on various aspects of the boundary element method and specifically:
  • heat conduction in bodies with self-irradiating boundaries for the steady state and transient fields,

  • allowance for non-linear material behaviour and presence of shadow zones in coupled conduction-radiation problems

  • large scale iterative solvers

  • dual reciprocity without matrix inversion applied to transient heat transfer problems.

The main goal of the research is the further development of an efficient BEM algorithm to handle coupled heat conduction-radiation problems.
